Summary
Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council conducted the scheduled 5-year review of Electricity Supply – Power System Maintenance unit standards to determine if they remain fit for purpose given New Zealand's renewable energy transition.
The review process included Technical Advisory Group meetings on 16 October and 30 October 2025, followed by broader industry consultation from 10-21 November 2025. Consultation participants included asset owners, employers, health and safety specialists, and industry associations.
The review found that all 12 unit standards remain fundamentally fit for purpose and current with industry practice and technology. Following consultation feedback, the recommendation was for minor modifications, with no changes to content, structure, or assessment requirements. The transition to skill standards will be undertaken with industry at the next review to align with the skill requirements of industry at that point in time.
Responsibility for these standards has been transferred from Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure WDC to Engineering and Infrastructure Industry Skills Board to reflect the VET reforms.
Main changes
· Standard Setting Body has been updated to Engineering and Infrastructure Industry Skills Board.
