Reason for the development/review

The purpose of the review is to ensure the Kaupapa Māori Public Health qualifications are relevant, fit for purpose and meets the aspirations and needs of whānau, hapū, iwi and hapori.

Summary of development/review and consultation process

The Kaupapa Māori Public Health qualifications were scheduled for review in 2025.
The NZQA website has been updated accordingly to signal the commencement of this review.
Members of the Whakaruruhau Working Group (WWRG) who participated in the review represented a broad section of the sector, including kaupapa Māori public health practitioners, hauora and community organisations, and tertiary education providers delivering programmes leading to the Kaupapa Māori Public Health qualifications.

The mandatory review ensures the qualifications are relevant, fit for purpose and meets the aspirations and needs of whānau, hapū, iwi and hapori.

Wider consultation for feedback and comments was conducted via the NZQA website for a duration of four weeks.

 

Main changes resulting from the development/review process

§  Minor amendments made to the strategic purpose statements to align with the updated (2025) qualification types and level descriptors. 

§  Minor amendments applied to the GPOs across the suite to include the appropriate verb at each level and minor amendments made for clarity and relevance in a Kaupapa Māori Health setting.

§  Amendments to the mātāpono were proposed by the Whakaruruhau Matua and endorsed by the wider whakaruruhau. These updates ensure the mātāpono remain culturally relevant and aligned to each qualification.

§  Programme conditions updated for relevance and currency such as updating relevant legislative links.

§  Additional GPO created to support critical engagement with hapori. Credit weightings distributed evenly - 30 per GPO

§  Minor amendments to Conditions relating to the Graduate Profile and Employment, Cultural, Community Pathway and were made.
