The National Diploma in Social Service Work with Abuse, Neglect, and Violence (Level 6) [Ref: 0855] is designed for professional social service workers whose area of practice is working with those who have experienced abuse, neglect, and violence, and/or those who are perpetrators of abuse, neglect, and violence. Other roleholders may be professional social service workers who encounter situations of abuse, neglect, and violence in the course of their work. The elective section of this qualification enables people to design their qualification for work with either those who have experienced abuse, neglect, and violence, or those who are perpetrators of abuse, neglect, and violence.
People awarded this qualification are able to assess; establish protection and safety plans; investigate and manage intake; and provide counselling for people who have experienced abuse, neglect, and violence, or those who are perpetrators of abuse, neglect, and violence. They are able to conduct case reviews of interventions. Their work is informed by knowledge of abuse, neglect, and violence, which includes an analysis of relevant structural issues, and the impact of abuse on human development. They work within the framework of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ethics, and relevant legislation. They participate in professional supervision (sometimes referred to as clinical supervision), and demonstrate safe practice. The National Diploma in Social Service Work with Abuse, Neglect, and Violence (Level 6) offers professionally qualified social service workers the opportunity to extend their learning and attain a specialist qualification in this social service practice area. Professionally qualified social service workers in the context of this qualification means those who have been awarded either: the National Diploma in Counselling (Level 6) [Ref: 0988]; the National Diploma in Iwi/Maori Social Services (Level 6) [Ref: 0667]; the National Diploma in Social Services with a strand in either Counselling or Social Work (Level 6) [Ref: 0251] (not the Community Work strand); the National Diploma in Social Work (Level 6) [Ref: 0989]; or an equivalent professional social services qualification from outside the National Qualifications Framework. The National Diploma in Social Service Work with Abuse, Neglect, and Violence (Level 6) does not lead on to any other qualification. |
