The interim domestic Code (interim Code) sets out the roles and responsibilities of tertiary education organisations (TEOs) in promoting and supporting your wellbeing, development and educational achievement.

Under the Code, your TEO should be helping you to be:

  • safe, physically, and mentally
  • respected and accepted for who you are
  • supported in your learning and wellbeing
  • connected with your social and cultural networks and
  • able to have your say in decisions about services.

The interim Code has ten outcomes.  Six outcomes focus on pastoral care for students and four outcomes focus on student accommodation. Click here to find out more about each outcome.

Student accommodation / Ngā whare nohonoho o te ākonga

The four outcomes of the interim Code relating to student accommodation are there to ensure that your student accommodation provides a positive and supportive environment for you to live in.

Under the interim Code, student accommodation means premises that are exempt under section 5B of the Residential Tenancies Act 1986. This includes halls of residence/apartments/villages and student hostels. It does not include homestays or private flatting/boarding situations.

Ko ngā putanga e whā e aro ana ki te whakanoho ākonga, he whakatūturu i te painga o te whare amorangi mātauranga hei wāhi noho, ā, he whakataunga hoki i te mauri tau o te ākonga.
