Part B: Report on performance standard

Candidates who were awarded Scholarship with Outstanding Performance commonly:

  • demonstrated the essential metacognitive skills of synthesis and interpretation in the Maori language 
  • articulated their own views with precision supported by appropriate language functions that portrayed clarity of thinking and ideas and fluency in all aspects of the exam. 

Candidates who were awarded Scholarship commonly:

  • demonstrated a highly developed knowledge, skills and understanding of the Māori language 
  • promoted a level of critical thinking and sound analysis in some aspects of the exam with appropriate language functions and examples. 

Other candidates

Candidates who were not awarded Scholarship commonly:

  • portrayed aspects of good understanding of the Maori language
  • were competent in certain parts of the exam but lacked consistency
  • at times, struggled to articulate their own opinion and lacked the discipline to execute questions and ideas with clarity. 
  • failed complete all requirements of the exam.
