Progress and results for qualification reviews

The progress of reviews of qualifications

The Targeted Review of Qualifications (TRoQ) at levels 1-6 (non-university) on New Zealand’s ten-level qualifications framework commenced in 2008. The review was initiated in response to concerns raised by employers, employees and unions about the clarity and relevance of qualifications, particularly vocational qualifications.

One of the changes recommended was that all qualifications required mandatory periodic reviews to determine they are still fit for purpose.

On July 2010, there were 4,610 qualifications (levels 1 – 6) and it is estimated that this number will be reduced to 1200 as a result of TRoQ. The reviewed qualifications have been replaced by new qualifications, and are being progressively discontinued. They will not be displayed on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF).
