Music Technology Assessment Support Material
Show: Assessment Support Material homepage
Assessment support material has been developed to support interpretation of the standards and to show how the merit and excellence grades in these unit standards can be meaningfully assessed.
These resources are intended as a guide only and it is expected that assessors will adapt these and develop assessments that are relevant to the context their assessment occurs in.
The unit standards for Music Technology were reviewed in 2020.
As a result of the review, assessments on creating sequences using music technology equipment now occupy their own unique standards, as do those on using music notation software. This allows greater flexibility for their use. The revised set of standards also has a greater focus on musical creativity and real-world application that can be applied across genres and require demonstration of a greater range of techniques than previously.
- The standards now reflect the latest template where Explanatory notes are renamed Guidance information and Evidence requirements have become Performance criteria.
- Level 1 standard 27656, level 2 standard 27658, and level 3 standard 23730 were each replaced by two new standards: level 1 standards 32300 and 32301; level 2 standards 32302 and 32303; and, level 3 standards 32304 and 32305. The new standards separate assessments that involve creating sequences using music technology equipment from those that involve using music notation software. This separation better serves the needs of learners who may wish to specialise.
