Background

An analysis of usage including stakeholder input regarding current and intended future use of higher level ECE and PIECE standards was undertaken. These standards had few results reported in the past five years, and most of this related to expiring qualifications.

Feedback from current providers indicated it was very unlikely that these unit standards would be required as assessment tools towards the new ECE qualifications or for another purpose.

Whilst evidence seemed clear for the proposed expiry of the higher level unit standards, we were particularly interested in whether there was an ongoing need to justify keeping any of the Level 3 and 4 PIECE Cultural Support unit standards 23412 – 23423, but stakeholder feedback in 2018-2019 did not support the retention of any of the standards proposed for expiry.
