Summary of changes

The classification change from Special Education to Inclusive Education and the creation of its two domains, reflects changes to language used by the sector. The standards were updated to reflect current educational policy and sector focus and provide up-to-date professional development tools for education support roles.

The review considered eight existing standards in the Special Education subfield, including 7310 which had previously been reviewed and published in March 2019. The ninth standard in this subfield, 7302 Assist with programmes in education settings for young people with oral language disorders, was also reviewed in March 2019 and will expire 31 December 2020.

Of the existing eight standards, two were approved for expiry without replacement, due to low usage, with the remainder reviewed and updated. The expiring standards are 7282 Assist with behaviour change for young people with challenging behaviour in education settings and 9143 Describe and support a collaborative consultative team approach for young people with special needs. Three new standards (31905, 31906, 31907) were also created.

Standards 7282 and 9143 will expire on 31 December 2021.

The last date for assessment of the superseded versions of these standards is 31 December 2021.

The planned review date for standards in the Inclusive Education subfield is in December 2023.
