Current reviews

NZQA National Qualifications Services has begun a review of the 40 unit standards at Levels 4-5 currently listed on the Directory of Assessment Standards (DAS) in:

The standards being considered are listed in the following table:

Of the standards in these domains:

  • 22 standards, (in normal font), are due for review in 2021, including the standards developed for the Level 5 ALNE qualifications [Refs: 2754 and 2755]
  • 15 standards, (in bold font), were developed for and/or are used in programmes leading to the following qualifications:
    • Level 4 Assessment [Ref: 2752],
    • Level 4 Adult and Tertiary Teaching (ATT) [Ref: 2746], and
    • Level 5 ATT [Ref: 2993]
  • 3 standards, (in italic font), are not due for review till 2022 but are at Level 5 and will be considered alongside the rest of their domain and/or other Level 5 standards.

The purpose of the review is to ensure that:

  • standards due for review this year are maintained and fit for purpose
  • standards developed to align with qualifications that were reviewed in 2020 (or included in programmes leading to them) are still suitable for those who wish to use them as assessment tools for the reviewed qualifications.

Review panels will meet initially during May to ensure that:

  • standards due for review this year are maintained and fit for purpose
  • standards developed to align with qualifications that were reviewed in 2020, (or included in programmes leading to them), are still suitable for those who wish to use them as assessment tools for the reviewed qualifications.

Completed reviews

June 2018 – Review, revision and rollover of Assessment of Learning unit standards

January 2017 – Review of Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education, Adult Education and Training and Generic education and Training unit standards

In 2016 and 2017, the standards contained in the Adult Education and Training and Generic Education and Training subfields were comprehensively reviewed.  A key outcome of these reviews was to provide unit standards-based pathways into relevant New Zealand qualifications in Assessment Practice, Adult and Tertiary Teaching, and Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education.
