English for Academic Purposes unit standards
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) unit standards at Levels 3 and 4 are designed for people preparing for academic study. They are open to all learners.
The Level 4 EAP unit standards credential a learner’s linguistic ability to cope with university study. They are mandatory for the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) (Level 4) [Ref: 1883].
Unit standards 22749, 22750 and 22751 meet the university entrance literacy requirements.
The EAP unit standards are available to secondary and tertiary providers of programmes of study.

Completed reviews
November 2017 – Development of Level 3 English for Academic Purposes unit standards
Details are available in the November 2017 Review of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) unit standards (Level 3) change report.
Five EAP Level 3 unit standards were developed to assess a candidate’s readiness to pathway onto EAP Level 4 standards. The standards can be used by providers to assess the outcomes of the NZ Certificate in English Language (Applied) (Level 3) [Ref: 3667].
