Supported Learning unit standards

Unit standards for Supported Learning are intended for learners who require some form of support with their learning either through additional resources, specialised equipment or adapted teaching programmes.  They are people with learning disabilities and include those with intellectual disabilities.

These standards are available to secondary school and tertiary providers of programmes of study.

We will provide an update once all the feedback from consultation has been considered by the panel.

The key changes proposed include:

  • Two new standards are proposed to replace standard 29298 to separate routines and commitments from one another and ensure both areas are covered adequately.
  • Standards 29309, 29310 and 29311 (all related to the previous optional qualification strand in Skills for Working) had references to the previous version of the qualification removed.
  • Compulsory range items were incorporated into the relevant performance criteria where practical.
  • Definitions were added or amended to provide further clarity.
  • Credits in standards 29299, 29300 and 29305 were increased to more accurately reflect the required workload and reflect the reviewed qualification.
  • Adjustments were made to some evidence requirements to ensure clarity and better reflect the credit allocations.
  • Titles and wording throughout were amended to reflect language used in the reviewed qualification.
  • Reference to the target audience for the standards was amended for clarity.

The landscape of standards (DOCX, 30KB) aligned to the reviewed New Zealand Certificate in Skills for Living for Supported Learners (Level 1) [Ref: 2853] has also been updated.

  • any need for standards for those who wish to use them as assessment tools for programmes leading to the recently developed New Zealand Certificate in Skills for Learning and Working, for Supported Learners (Level 1) [Ref: 4373] is identified and addressed.
