An analysis of usage including stakeholder input regarding current and intended future use of higher level ECE and PIECE standards has been undertaken. These standards have had few results reported in the past five years, and most of this relates to expiring qualifications.

Feedback from current providers has indicated it is very unlikely that these unit standards will be required as assessment tools towards the new ECE qualifications or for another purpose.

Whilst evidence seems clear for the proposed expiry of the higher level unit standards, we are particularly interested in whether there is an ongoing need to justify keeping any of the Level 3 and 4 PIECE Cultural Support unit standards 23412 – 23423.

We are seeking comments and feedback from any interested stakeholders on the proposal recommending the expiry of the Level 5 and 6 unit standards in sub-field Early Childhood Education and Care and Level 3-7 unit standards in sub-field Pacific Islands Early Childhood Education standards in December 2020.
