Background

2019 review of standards in the Special Education subfield

The key changes proposed to the standards included:

  • expiring standards 7282 and 9143
  • reducing levels for standards 9135 and 9144
  • developing three new standards
  • clarifying intent and reflecting current inclusive education practice and terminology, including in the naming of the classification.

Review of 7310 and 7302

In March 2019, new versions of standards 7310 (reviewed) and 7302 (reviewed and designated expiring) were listed.

Special Education > Assessment and Programming in Special Education

IDLevelCreditTitle
7302 4 6 Assist with programmes in education settings for young people with oral language disorders (Expiring 31 December 2020)
7310 4 4 Assist in reading programmes for young people with reading difficulties

Main changes

  • Standard 7302 was designated expiring without replacement (very low usage over the last 6 years and no indicated intention to use it).
  • Standard 7310 was amended to reflect the new template, where Explanatory notes are renamed Guidance information, and Evidence requirements become Performance criteria.
  • Changes were made to guidance information to remove reference to outdated guidelines and to clarify the requirements of the standard.

See the March 2019 Review of Special Education unit standards change report for more details.
