Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the construction industry with people who have the practical skills, knowledge and aptitude to construct foundations for building projects, to a commercial standard.
The qualification provides recognition of knowledge and skills for people working in construction situations as foundation construction specialists, as well as those working in the building relocation industry. The optional Concrete Placing and Finishing strand provides recognition of the skills and knowledge for people who also place and finish concrete foundations.
This qualification aligns to the knowledge and skills requirements of the Foundations Licence class of the Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) scheme.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply knowledge of the building and construction regulatory environment to carry out foundation construction work.
- Interpret documentation to effectively set out and establish a worksite for foundation construction work.
- Apply knowledge of concrete when undertaking foundation construction work.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with own team, other trades, professions and regulatory authority representatives.
- Work safely at all times and manage environmental issues on a foundation construction work site.

Graduates of the Concrete Foundation Walls and Concrete Slab On-ground strand will also be able to:
- Carry out foundation preparation and construction work for concrete foundation walls and concrete slab on-ground.

Graduates of the Pile Foundations strand will also be able to:
- Carry out foundation construction work for concrete or timber pile foundations.

Graduates of the Concrete Placing and Finishing strand will also be able to:
- Carry out concrete placement and finishing for foundations.

New Zealand Certificate in Construction Related Trades (Supervisor) (Level 4) [Ref: 2381]
New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trades Supervision (Level 5) with strands in Commercial Construction, Construction Related Manufacturing, Construction Related Trades, and Residential Building [Ref: 4237].
Employment pathways
