Strategic Purpose Statement |
The National Certificate in Tourism (Business Practice) (Level 4) with an optional strand in Operational Management [Ref: 1595] recognises the skills and knowledge required of a person employed in a senior operational position in the tourism sector. The optional strand enables additional recognition to be given to the skills, knowledge and experience gained by those actually working in the tourism sector.
This qualification is designed to be achievable in both pre-employment and workplace environments, however the optional strand can only be achieved in an actual tourism workplace. People awarded this qualification are likely to be responsible for providing services to visitors, and leading or supervising employees, resources, and/or business operations in the tourism sector. The core compulsory standards in this qualification provide candidates with a sound understanding of the significance of the tourism industry to New Zealand and the principles and practice of ecological tourism management, and knowledge of employment rights and responsibilities under law in a tourism workplace. Candidates are also able to give and respond to feedback on performance, apply problem solving techniques and are able to discuss the social implications of information technology. The core elective allows candidates to choose from standards relating to business practice, communication skills, Maori business and management, and contract legislation and common law principles in the tourism industry. The optional strand builds on the qualification and recognises the specific operational management skills of people working, or intending to work, in a senior operational position in a tourism workplace, including delivering workplace training, legislative compliance, and business development. This qualification may follow on from the National Certificate in Tourism (Core Skills) (Level 3) [Ref: 0876], and may lead on to the National Diploma in Tourism (Management) (Level 5) [Ref: 0473]. |
