Strategic Purpose Statement
The Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Level 7) is developed for candidates who have knowledge and background of electrical engineering with a completed course of study in electrical engineering at Level 5, or with equivalent skills and knowledge, and want to develop more specialist knowledge and skills, as per requirements of the industry.

The purpose of qualification is to provide skilled graduates to different sectors of the electrical engineering industry including telecommunication and networks; and electronics and embedded systems. The program aims to produce graduates which are fit to provide services in the global and New Zealand's electrical industry.

Graduates with specialisation in telecommunication and networks will have the knowledge and practical skills needed to fulfil current requirements of the telecommunication and enterprise networks industry including the needs of: optical fibre installers; telecommunication and network engineers and technicians; and enterprise network administrators.

Graduates with specialization in electronics and embedded systems will be able to provide services in electronic product development, design, implementation, PCB construction, and testing in the global and New Zealand's industry of electronics and embedded systems.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this programme will be able to architect and engineer electrical designs. They will have the skills and knowledge required to design and implement electronic systems, configure and install telecommunication and networking equipment, solve complicated engineering problems, and perform a variety of hardware and software testing. They will be equipped to work with various types of electrical and communication devices to provide solutions to business and service industry problems.

Graduates of the telecommunication and networks strand will be able to work in a range of telecommunications areas including radio frequency, microwave, antennas, radar, cellular baseband and broadband. They will also have the knowledge and skills required in roles relating to sector IP based networks. Potential job roles include deploying wired and wireless infrastructure, network and topology design, and equipment installation and configuration.

Graduates of the electronics and embedded systems strand will be able to propose state of the art electronics products, develop electronics and microcontroller based embedded systems, implement real time control systems and test a variety of electronic equipment using contemporary tools.
Education pathways
Graduates of this qualification will have the knowledge and skills required to undertake further study towards a degree level qualification in electrical engineering or specialist qualifications in electronics, telecommunications, or computer engineering.
Employment pathways

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have a Diploma in Electrical Engineering Level 5 or equivalent knowledge and skills. If English is not their first language and for International students an overall IELTS band score of at least 6.0 is required with no band score lower than 5.5, or evidence must be provided of equivalent English language proficiency.

Credits
