Strategic Purpose Statement |
The Postgraduate Diploma in Community Action & Social Impact (PGDipCAS) is designed to foster social change agents and to deepen their understanding of community action. Through the study of social justice in theory and practice, particularly those actions embedded in Māori and Pacific ways of being, students will engage in rigorous intellectual analysis and critical problem-solving. Graduates will develop and demonstrate advanced knowledge of their own positionality and their capability to drive change in authentic partnership with their communities. They will become confident practitioners of rangahau and research, able to evaluate the impact of existing change movements and to participate in wider discussion relating to social justice in Aotearoa New Zealand.

A graduate of the Postgraduate Diploma in Community Action & Social Impact: Demonstrates advanced knowledge of social justice in theory and practice, and theories of conscientisation, resistance and transformative action including Kaupapa Māori, Pacific Methodologies, Indigenous self-determination and data sovereignty, Identity Politics, and Critical Race Theory; Demonstrates rigorous intellectual analysis, criticism and problem-solving as they evaluate existing social change movements and determine the need for change in and with their own communities; Partners deeply and authentically with communities and organisations working towards widespread, systemic change; seeing themselves as part of a larger village, community and network working towards social change, with the vision of fair and equal opportunity for everyone in Aotearoa; Reflects critically and is strongly situated in their own positionality, agency and purpose, and acts in service of social justice; Discusses and debates the role of social justice and their place in it, and undertakes rangahau and research in this field.

Education pathways |
On completion of the Postgraduate diploma, graduates may pursue further studies in the field at Master's level.

Entry Requirements |
Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree at Level 7 on the NZQF or recognised equivalent, with evidence of achievement at a B Grade or above. Selection into the programme is managed by the recruitment team.
