Strategic Purpose Statement
Through interdisciplinary study, graduates build on the knowledge already gained in their undergraduate degree so that they can think critically and solve problems in creative ways, know how to access and evaluate information in a range of ways, are able to use more than one language accurately in a range of settings, can communicate crossculturally and interculturally, and are able to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained in a range of vocational settings.

The GDIS will produce graduates who: 1. are confident and independent and able to set their own goals 2. will contribute to the society in which they live 3. think critically and solve problems in creative ways 4. know how to access and evaluate information in a range of ways 5. are curious and excited about learning 6. to communicate cross-culturally and inter-culturally 7. are able to use more than one language accurately in a range of social settings, content areas and in their work at a high level of fluency 8. are able to apply the knowledge and skills gained in a range of workplace situations.

Entry Requirements
Domestic entry: Applicants must have an undergraduate degree. International entry: Applicants must have an undergraduate degree with a minimum 50% grade average AND English language proficiency evidenced by: 1. any English test score listed on NZQA Table English Proficiency Outcomes of Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules 2013 2. meets NZQA's Criteria for existing English proficiency 3. IPU New Zealand English Proficiency Test 60% with no section less than 55% Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the GDIS, students may not always have prior knowledge in the area of each paper offered. Notwithstanding this lack of prior knowledge, students are deemed to be able to function successfully in all prescribed papers, due to the essay writing and research skills that they are expected to have acquired from their Bachelors' degree.

This one-year programme of study is designed for students already holding an undergraduate degree. This allows them to undertake further studies in specialised internationally oriented papers and develop interdisciplinary approaches to issues by taking undergraduates courses in a number of disciplinary fields: International Relations, International Business, Environmental Studies, Language Studies.

Level

The NZQF has ten levels. Level one is least complex and is often entry-level, for example foundation certificates. Levels eight to ten are the most complex, and include post-graduate study.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
