People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe the HSNO (Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996) and the HSW (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017 in relation to their application and impact at an extractives site; explain the nature of hazardous substances and their potential effects on health and the environment; and interpret key written information on labels, safety data-sheets (SDS), and company data-sheets for hazardous substances.
