This is an entry-level unit standard for mechanical engineering and related trades for safety and correct procedures when carrying out lifting operations in installation, maintenance and fabrication work, using simple lifting devices and does not cover the moving or lifting of personnel. Additional training and certification should be undertaken in the workplace on the use of specific lifting appliances and equipment.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: select and visually inspect lifting appliances and tackle; sling and secure loads; and carry out lifting procedures.
