This unit standard is intended for people employed as cable yarder operators in a cable harvesting operation. Cable yarder operators are responsible for extracting stems and ensuring the safety of any personnel working in close proximity to the cable yarder.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare for cable yarder operations; prepare a cable yarder for operation; start up and shut down a cable yarder; demonstrate knowledge of cable yarder capabilities; operate a cable yarder to extract stems; and carry out general cable yarder operator responsibilities.
