NZQA National Qualifications Services has completed the review of unit standard 11609 and the revision and rollover of unit standard 11618.

Summary

The unit standards in domain Accounting - Middle Level were reviewed in light of the development of new unit standards for the new New Zealand business qualifications (http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/qualifications/business-qualifications/review-of-business-qualifications/).  A key issue for the review was duplication of content between the two set of standards.

As a result, 9 of the 11 standards in the domain will be replaced by new standards, and will expire at the end of 2018, to coincide with the expiry of National qualifications in Business.  This expiry will be actioned when the new standards are listed on the Directory of Assessment Standards.

Unit standards 11609 and 11618 were unaffected by duplication with the new standards.

Main changes

· 11609 was reviewed to refocus the expression of the outcome to reduce the likelihood of perceived duplication with new standard(s): the outcome nevertheless is essentially unchanged.  The standard has also been streamlined.

· A new explanatory note was added to both standards about their relevance to the new qualifications.
