Strategic Purpose Statement
People gaining this qualification have the ability to undertake a wide range of agricultural duties at a skilled operator level with extensive operational knowledge and skill specialising in the chosen strand.

The National Certificate in Agriculture (Introductory Farming Skills) [Ref: 0006] is not a prerequisite to this qualification, however, this qualification does build on the skills and knowledge recognised by that qualification.

This qualification is not a prerequisite to the National Certificate in Agribusiness Management with strands in Production Management, Business Planning, Physical Resource Management, Taxation and Risk Management, Capital Management, and Financial Planning [Ref: 0500] however, it does build on the skills and knowledge recognised by this qualification. Trainees should bear this in mind when choosing electives. The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation urges people to sight the National Certificate in Agribusiness Management with strands in Production Management, Business Planning, Physical Resource Management, Taxation and Risk Management, Capital Management, and Financial Planning [Ref: 0500] qualification requirements before selecting electives for this qualification.

The skills and knowledge gained in this qualification can also be credited towards the National Diploma in Agribusiness Management [Ref: 0647], although this qualification is not a prerequisite for that qualification.

The elective sections of this certificate recognise the diverse range of skills required for the agricultural industry. The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation supports the concept of continuing and lifelong education, and encourages trainees to consider future options, including diplomas and degrees available from Lincoln and Massey Universities.

People are also advised to consider safety issues likely to be encountered on-job and ensure that studies adequately cover potential contingencies. Unit standards concerned with driving a variety of vehicles, chainsaws, first aid, injury prevention and safety in the workplace should be considered.
