Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is designed for those wishing to work in the building and construction industry as manufacturers of fibrous plaster linings and fittings, and provides a means of recognising current competence for those already working in the industry.

The compulsory section covers basic core construction techniques and the casting of a variety of fibrous plaster products. The Panels and Tiles Optional Strand covers knowledge of the construction of fibrous plaster radiant heating panels and fibrous plaster ceiling panels and tiles. The Specialist Models and Mould Making Optional Strand covers knowledge of repair and construction of models for fibrous plaster casting, and the construction of fibreglass, flexible, piece, and curved and sectional moulds for fibrous plaster work in a factory.

Holders of this qualification are able to manufacture fibrous plaster products in a factory at production rates established by industry. Qualification requirements include safe work practices in a factory environment.

Those who specialise in the manufacture of panels and tiles or the manufacture of specialist models and mould making will be recognised by the award of one or both of the specialist optional strands.

The Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation is responsible for other qualifications that have credits in common with the areas of health, safe working practices, handling construction materials, and basic tool use, allowing people to move more readily across sectors of the industry.

Qualification Type

Level

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
