Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is suitable for people with no or limited experience as installers of roofing. It is also suitable in terms of recognising current roofing installation knowledge and skills. People completing this qualification have knowledge of roofing plans, preparation for installation, installation procedures, systems relevant to a specialist strand or strands, re-roofing and flashings and penetrations. They will also be able to perform relevant calculations, interpret roofing plans and specifications, form and install flashings and carry out installation or application as applicable to the chosen strand(s).

Achievement of this qualification requires completing a core compulsory set of standards covering first aid, safe working and injury prevention, and knowledge of hand and power tools, general industry knowledge, and knowledge of airflow and rainwater handling. Candidates then complete one or more of the following specialist strands, depending on the type of roofing that they install.

. Liquid Roof Membrane
. Torch on Roof Membrane
. Roof Shingle

In addition candidates may choose to complete an optional Foreperson strand, suitable for people with proven competence in installing roofing product and who have additional responsibility in terms of supervising installation on-site. This involves applying leadership, site safety, communication skills and quality assurance practices on roofing projects.

This qualification may lead to enrolment in the National Certificate in Roofing (Contract Supervisor) [Ref: 1274] suitable for persons with roofing product installation experience. Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
