Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification is for people who wish to pursue a career as technician in the electronics servicing industry. It recognises the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to perform competently and safely in the testing, maintenance, and repair to component level of electronic equipment and products.
Typically, the qualification will be gained during a three to four year traineeship, incorporating learning in the workplace as well as on courses conducted by accredited training providers. The trainee would complete first the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Level 2), then the National Certificate in Electronics Technology (Intermediate) (Level 3), and finally this National Certificate in Electronics Technology (Level 4). To gain the certificate, candidates must demonstrate: Knowledge of advanced electronic circuits and concepts, which will usually be assessed during an off-job training course. Competence in the practical skills of servicing products and equipment in one of three areas of application or "strands", i.e. Communications and Radar, Consumer Products, or Office Automation. The strand is determined by the choice of "on-job" unit standards, assessed by registered workplace assessors. Competence in additional Level 4 unit standards, chosen from a number of relevant sub-fields on the framework to allow for enterprise-specific requirements. Having obtained the certificate in one strand, candidates may acquire another strand by gaining credit for the additional unit standards. Progression to higher qualifications will also be possible. This qualification replaces the Trade Certificate in Electronics Servicing. |
