Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification recognises the skills and competencies required for an owner/operator of a commercial in-shore vessel.
The qualification recognises that the holder has the marine engineering, seamanship and navigation skills necessary to take charge of a vessel and to conduct the sea safety and sea survival functions of distress response and first aid. It also recognises skills in small business management, group participation, personal presentation, and the sales and customer service skills required for dealing with clients. The qualification has a significant degree of commonality with the National Certificate in Maritime (Commercial Coastal Watchkeeping) and holders may progress towards holding both qualifications and towards the National Certificate in Maritime (Master of Commercial Coastal Vessel) with an optional strand in Ocean Navigation. Special Note The Certificate of Competency (Licence to Operate) is issued in addition to this qualification following fulfilment of Maritime Safety Authority (MSA) requirements. Employers who recruit trainees must ensure that the trainees are supplied with the relevant information and procedures relating to MSA requirements. |
