Strategic Purpose Statement
The National Certificate in Drycleaning (Production Assistant) is awarded to people who have demonstrated competence in textile identification, checking in textile items for drycleaning, identifying customer needs, explaining cleaning options, and assembling, packaging, and returning cleaned items to customers. It recognises the skills and knowledge that are required for making informed decisions on how to receive items, deal with customers and pack and return cleaned items in a professional manner.

Knowledge and skills in the areas of health and safety, teamwork, workplace numeracy and literacy are included in the compulsory section of the qualification. The Industry Elective allows people to select laundry and/or laundry and drycleaning unit standards to meet the needs of their specific workplace. The Generic Elective provides a choice of unit standards from the service sector, health, communication skills, and core generic areas to cater for individual choice and development.

This is one of the three National Certificates in Drycleaning. The other two are the National Certificate in Drycleaning (Garment Finishing) [Ref: 0576], and the National Certificate in Drycleaning (Processing and Stain Removal) [Ref: 0577]. Each of them focuses on specific roles in a drycleaning establishment.

There are also two level one certificates in laundry - National Certificate in Laundry (Finishing and Packing) [Ref: 0579], and the National Certificate in Laundry (Washroom Procedures) [Ref: 0580], which could be of interest to those working in this field. It is intended that an overall supervisory qualification for the laundry and drycleaning trades will be developed and registered, once these 'hands-on' qualifications are in place and working effectively.
