Strategic Purpose Statement |
The National Certificate in Laundry (Washroom Procedures) is awarded to people who have demonstrated competence in the area of sorting textiles for laundering, washing, and drying textile loads. It recognises the skills and knowledge that are required for making informed decisions on how to sort, wash, and dry textile items in a professional manner.
Knowledge and skills in the areas of health and safety, teamwork, workplace numeracy and literacy are included in the compulsory section of the qualification. The Industry Elective allows people to select laundry and/or laundry and drycleaning unit standards to meet the needs of their specific workplace. The Generic Elective provides a choice of unit standards from the service sector, health, communication skills, and core generic areas to cater for individual choice and development. This is one of the two qualifications in laundry. Both certificates are at level one. The other is the National Certificate in (Finishing and Packaging) [Ref: 0579]. Each one focuses on specific roles in a laundry. There are also three level one certificates in drycleaning - National Certificate in Drycleaning (Garment Finishing) [Ref: 0576], and the National Certificate in Drycleaning (Processing and Stain Removal) [Ref: 0577], and the National Certificate in Drycleaning (Production Assistant) [Ref: 0578], which could be of interest to those working in this field. It is intended that an overall supervisory qualification for the laundry and drycleaning trades will be developed and registered once these 'hands-on' qualifications are in place and working effectively. |
