Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification recognises the skills of operators such as agricultural workers, seismic blasters, conservation workers, or firewood contractors who have blasting on land responsibilities.
The qualification has a significant health and safety component in recognition of the hazards associated with the extractive environment and blasting responsibilities. The holder of this qualification is able to demonstrate knowledge of explosives and their properties, and outline the legal and operational requirements of blasting for an approved handler. The holder of the qualification is able to demonstrate skills in storing explosives, designing blasting layouts, and carrying out blasting operations for land work. The optional section recognises skills in the manufacture of ANFO explosives. Although this qualification is not part of a specific pathway, it is expected that holders will hold, or be working towards a qualification such as the National Certificate in Extractive Industries (Operations) with strands in Lime Milling, Surface Extraction, and Underground Extraction [Ref: 0248] or qualifications related to their field of work. |
