The National Certificate in Social Service Work with Abuse, Neglect, and Violence (Level 4) [Ref: 0845] is a qualification for social service workers who are at a beginning level of competency in social service work with abuse, neglect, and violence.
The qualification is designed for paid and unpaid social service workers who work in community agencies that provide services to those who are affected by abuse, neglect, and violence (for example, a women's refuge), as well as other social service workers who encounter situations of abuse, neglect, and violence in the course of their work. People awarded this qualification are able to assess presenting issues in a situation of abuse, neglect, and violence; identify, respond to, and report signs in a situation of suspected abuse, neglect, or violence; and provide support for a person affected by abuse, neglect, or violence. Their work is informed by knowledge of selected aspects of structural issues related to abuse, neglect, and violence, and the impact of abuse, neglect, and violence on human development. They work within the framework of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ethics, and relevant legislation. They have limited autonomy, and work under professional and managerial supervision. This qualification may lead on to the National Diploma in Social Service Work with Abuse, Neglect, and Violence (Level 6) [Ref: 0855], as well as the other vocational and professional qualifications in social services at levels 4 and 6. |
