Strategic Purpose Statement
This diploma is intended for professional security people who work in roles that may include: security risk managers; corporate managers of security functions; departmental security officers; security consultants; sales role requiring security survey or risk assessment skills; investigative work in corporate environment, usually within a security team; and insurance assessors who assess security risks.

For managers of people and business functions in the security industry refer to the National Diploma in Security Management (Level 6) [Ref: 0562].

The qualification comprises a compulsory section, and an elective section, to provide flexibility within the qualification and allow application in a variety of industry contexts.

The compulsory section of the qualification covers knowledge and skills required for the security industry in relation to interpretation and application of law, risk assessment, surveys; and for the development of operational plans and policy, practice, and procedure.

The elective section allows candidates to select appropriate skills for their role from the security management domain, such as: management of security principles, practices and procedure; security interviews; application of security techniques, hardware, and systems; critical incident management; security investigations; and advice on special security risks.

This diploma may lead to overseas degree programmes in security and risk management or related disciplines.

Entry Requirements
Relevant security industry experience or have completed the Certificate in Security (Level 3) or National Certificate in Security Management (Supervision) (Level 5). Internationals IELTS Score of 6.0 with a minimum score of 5.0 in the written band.

Level

The NZQF has ten levels. Level one is least complex and is often entry-level, for example foundation certificates. Levels eight to ten are the most complex, and include post-graduate study.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
