Strategic Purpose Statement
Graduates of the Diploma in Contemporary Music will gain creative and collaborative strengths and experience, which will equip them well in a fast-changing musical or music-related environment and have a wide-ranging understanding of musical styles and heritages, together with the business side of the music industry and have the ability to participate in oral and written discussions with other musical practitioners or related creative artists about specialist music (or related) projects or concerns; graduates will have the skills and strategies to be an ongoing independent learner of music, with a special emphasis on the use of 21st century technologies, have an understanding of bicultural issues and understanding of contemporary music in relation to New Zealand?s multi-cultural society and have been exposed to, and have become familiar with, skills requirements of New Zealand?s tertiary academic environment in readiness for potential further study.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this programme will have developed their musical and professional strengths, including collaborative performance, creative and cross disciplinary skills, music fundamentals and techniques, and technology based and music industry skills.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have a minimum total of 48 NCEA credits in his/her best four subjects at Level 2, or have gained a maximum total of 20 in New Zealand Sixth Form Certificate in his/her best four subjects, or equivalent, or have completed an appropriate qualification at Level 3 or above, or meet the Special or Discretionary Admission requirements. Applicants must also meet the English Language Entry requirements, and attend an audition/interview in which they must demonstrate competence in aural and musical abilities. Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
