Strategic Purpose Statement
A graduate of the Diploma in Information Technology will: - Demonstrate effective application of a broad range of IT knowledge and skills for installation and support of PC and network systems and other IT services and facilities. - Have developed analytical abilities, technical knowledge and skills to analyse problems and devise solutions. - Be able to apply their technical skills and problems solving skills in a rapidly changing commercial environment, identifying linkages and implications of proposed solutions. - Have developed effective communication skills and interpersonal skills in dealing with both technical and non-technical clients. - Have the ability to work effectively as a member of a team. - Have a strong customer focus and service orientation. - Have an understanding of the role of information technology in the business environment. - Be adaptable, flexible, willing to learn, professionally "curious" and is able to assimilate new technologies and concepts. - Have a sounds technical understanding of computer systems and hardware infrastructure - Recognise and consider the relevant ethical dimensions inherent in information technology and business environments.
Entry Requirements
Entry requirement for the course leading to the NZSE Diploma in Information Technology (Level 6) are: 1.1.1 A New Zealand NCEA including: Level 3 or higher - 42 credits, including a minimum of 14 credits in each of two subjects from the "approved subjects" list; with a further 14 credits from not more than two additional domains on the National Qualifications Framework or "approved subjects". AND Level 2 or higher - 8 credits in English or Te Reo Maori; 4 credits must be in reading and 4 in writing. AND Level 1 or higher - 14 credits in Mathematics or Statistics and Probability or Pangarau. OR An equivalent qualification from overseas OR Suitable industry experience OR Satisfactory performance in the pre-enrolment of knowledge test. 1.1.2 Access to a personal computer for off-campus learning (desirable) 1.1.3 IELTS overall band score of 5.5 (international students) or equivalent 1.1.4 Student permit (international students) to study for the NZSW Diploma in Information Technology (Level 6)

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
