Strategic Purpose Statement
On completion of this qualification, students will be able to apply for herd manager and shepherd positions, with competence in the practical aspects of managing and grazing livestock on pasture. The qualification will lead into the National Certificate in Agriculture Level 4 with strands in Cattle, Dairy and Sheep. By completing the required unit standards from both the LBT Certificate in Agriculture (Level 3) (PC3477) and LBT Certificate in Agriculture (Level 3) with strands in Dairy and Sheep/Beef (PC3478) the following National Certificates may be awarded: 1436 - National Certificate in Agriculture (Cattle Breeding) (Level 3) - Dairy strand 1438 - National Certificate in Agriculture (Animal Health and Husbandry) (Level 3) - Cattle and Sheep strands 1440 - National Certificate in Dairy Farming (Milking) (Level 3) 1441 - Natrional Certificate in Dairy Farming (Animal Health and Husbandry) (Level 3) Please note that in order for the above National Certificates to be awarded candidates must complete both the LBT Certificate in Agriculture (Level 3) (PC3477) and the LBT Certificate in Agriculture (Level 3) with strands in Dairy and Sheep/Beef.
Entry Requirements
Academic Achievement Applicants should demonstrate an ability to succeed in tertiary study, shown by the completion of any of the following qualifications or courses of study: 5.1.1 National Certificate in Agriculture Level 2 and or equivalent qualification or experience in the industry. 5.1.2 Any qualification specified by the ITO or equivalent standards setting body 5.1.3 A minimum of three years of secondary education and or 5.1.4 48 or more credits at NCEA Level 1, with no fewer than 12 credits in each of four subjects and or 5.1.5 Equivalent NQF Unit Standards Applicants whose first language in not English, or who come from a country where the language of instruction in schools or other teaching institutions in not English, require an ELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 5 or above (or equivalent) for enrolment. Life skills/Work experience Applicants who do not meet the academic entry criteria above may be admitted to the programme/course of study if they are able to demonstrate Equivalent farming knowledge and skills and or Previous and relevant life skills or work experience and or Other formal or informal study such as to suggest likelihood of successful course completion. The LBT Certificate in Agriculture (Level 3) (PC3477) is a prerequisite to the LBT Certificate in Agriculture (Level 3) with strands in dairy and Sheep/Beef (PC3478) if students wish to complete the National Certificates, Ref: 1436, 1438, 1440 and 1441.
