Strategic Purpose Statement |
This national certificate is designed as an entry level qualification that recognises the skills and knowledge of an introductory floor and wall tiling worker. It also provides a means of recognising current competence for those already working in the industry.
The holder of this qualification is able to describe the use of primers and adhesives, grouts and grout additives, and sealants for floor and wall tiling, and demonstrate knowledge of work area set-up, surface preparation, floor and wall tile installation, and under tile heating systems and their installation for floor and wall tiling. They will be able to use hand tools and power tools, and under supervision set up work areas, perform surface preparation and install tiles. This qualification has a significant health and safety component in recognition of the nature of the construction environment, and holders of the qualification are able to manage first aid, provide first aid and provide resuscitation. They are also able to demonstrate knowledge of and carry out health and safety procedures for a building construction site. This qualification provides underpinning knowledge and skills important to the performance of individuals at all stages in the Floor and Wall Tiling industry. It is recommended that people following a career in the Floor and Wall Tiling industry start with this qualification. This qualification also provides people with the necessary skills and knowledge for entry into the National Certificate in Floor and Wall Tiling [Ref: 0726]. |
