Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification is for people involved in herd testing in the dairy industry.
The compulsory section recognises the skills required to plan, prepare for, and carry out herd testing, and to carry out inspection and calibration of milk meters. People will also have knowledge of the role, objectives, methods, and requirements of herd testing, and equipment used for it. As people are carrying out herd testing on dairy farms, people will have knowledge of farm dairy layout, design and hazards, and farm dairy equipment. Safety is an important aspect of the job so people will have the knowledge to protect their own health and safety in the workplace. The elective section recognises variations between workplaces, processes and locations where herd testing is carried out. People can select standards relating to their particular work situation including processing milk samples from herd testing, and preparing trays for storing milk samples; developing, implementing, and monitoring a seasonal plan for herd testing; and demonstrating knowledge of nozzles used in herd testing. On completion of this qualification people can progress to other qualifications in the agriculture or dairy industries such as the: .
