Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification is for people involved with designing, and analysing results of, possum population monitoring programmes.
People will have the skills to use statistics and spreadsheets for analysing results; prepare a monitoring report; and design and report results on programmes using a Geographical Information System (GIS). As design of possum population monitoring involves communication skills, information gathering, and report writing, people will have the skills to interview clients; listen to gain information; and give and receive feedback for the purposes of collecting and confirming information. People will also have knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment because possum population monitoring is an outdoor-based activity, which presents particular hazards and risks for field operatives who carry out the activity. All unit standards in the qualification are compulsory because design of possum population monitoring involves a set of well-defined skills and knowledge that apply across all types of organisations. The qualification builds on the knowledge and skills recognised by the National Certificate in Pest Monitoring (Possum Monitoring - Field Operative) (Level 3) [Ref: 1224]. There are no further pathways for people who complete this qualification available on the National Qualifications Framework. However, people may progress to the role of auditing possum population monitoring operations, or auditing results of analysis of possum population monitoring. Possum population monitoring audit roles are currently recognised by specific unit standards and not by qualification. |
