Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is for people with some experience in the deer industry. On completion of this qualification people will be able to work under little or no supervision.

The compulsory section recognises the skills required to assist with fawning and weaning; assist to handle and move deer in various situations, and treat deer; handle stags; and to manage the factors that contribute to injury on farms. This section also recognises the knowledge related to deer genetics and mating; reproduction, breed, classes, identification, and recording; sale purchase and transportation of deer; stag behaviour; animal anatomy and physiology; and health and health problems.

The elective section recognises variations amongst deer farms in the use of agricultural vehicles such as motorcycles, All Terrain Vehicle Utilities (ATVUs), and All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), and allows people to select a standard relevant to their own farming situation.

This qualification has a link with the National Certificate in Agriculture (Animal Feeding and Pastures) (Level 3) [Ref: 1435] as an overall package of seasonal farm skills.

On completion of this qualification people can progress to higher level qualifications in the agriculture industry.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
