Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is for people who operate a television camera for racing broadcasting in an outside broadcasting situation.

People will have the skills to position a television camera and take routine shots in a multi-camera environment in an outside broadcasting situation. People will also have knowledge of television cameras and accessories; camera shots and positions; video signals; camera and equipment storage and handling; guidelines for health and safety; operational areas, and pre and raceday procedures; lighting; the structure and functions of the New Zealand Racing Board; and thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound racing and raceday operations.

All standards in this qualification are compulsory because camera operation for racing broadcasting contains a set of well-defined skills and knowledge that apply across all racing broadcasting workplaces.

The qualification also contains two optional strands. If people wish to further progress and specialise in either advanced camera operation or electronic field production, then completion of the relevant optional strand is required.

The Advanced Camera Operation optional strand recognises the advanced technical and operational skills required to recognise, position, and shoot complex shots. The Electronic Field Production optional strand is for people who operate television cameras with on-board vision and sound, in a variety of locations shooting for racing entertainment programmes.

This qualification contains standards in common with the National Certificate in Racing Broadcasting (Sound Operator) (Level 3) [Ref: 1550].

On completion of this qualification people can progress to a range of generic business qualifications depending on their area of interest and career pathway.
