Strategic Purpose Statement |
The National Certificate in Career Practice (Level 5) provides holders with recognition of skills and knowledge related to the world of work, career consultation, education, intervention, assessment and measurement, and placement of clients into work, education, or training.
These skills and competencies have been identified as those used by people who work as career educators in schools, polytechnics, universities, colleges of education and private training establishments, and for liaison officers, recruitment officers, placement agencies, and immigration officers. In order to fulfil these roles, knowledge of the world of work, career development theory, and interventions is required. The range of skills and competencies include the application of career assessment instruments, assisting people with career plans, and educating others about careers, the world of work, education, and training. The compulsory section covers skills such as the developing and maintaining links partnerships and networks in the career industry and community, undertaking professional development as a career practitioner, and providing career information and guidance resources for a target group. The compulsory section also enables the candidate to provide safe career practice environments, demonstrate knowledge of tikanga Maori relevant to Maori clients of a career practice organisation and career development theories and equity issues in career practice and to demonstrate interpersonal communication skills. The elective section allows the candidate to demonstrate the use career assessment instruments with either Maori clients, Pacific clients, or clients with barriers to employment. The National Certificate in Career Practice (Level 5) [Ref: 1587] is designed to provide a pathway to the National Diploma in Career Practice (Level 6) [Ref: 1588] but is not a prerequisite. This qualification and the National Certificate in Career Practice (Level 4) [Ref: 1586] have standards in common. |
