Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification is for people with some riding experience who wish to develop the skills to coach horse and rider combinations, both individually and in a group, to bring about a positive change.
The compulsory section recognises the skills to demonstrate schooling exercises; ride in a balanced position, with the horse accepting the bit, on the flat and over 50 cm to 60 cm fences; build a simple jumping course; develop a series of equine coaching sessions; lunge a horse, and teach a novice rider on the lunge; plan, implement and evaluate introductory coaching lessons for riders on horses; select and fit gear on a horse for riding; prepare a horse for show; transport horses by road; apply first aid; work safely; carry out professional development; listen to gain information; and give and respond to feedback on performance. People will also have knowledge of coaching; the Training Scale and its applications for training horses, and coaching riders; conditioning and feeding requirements of horses; the nature of horses; horse anatomy and signs of good health and ill health; and coaching for people with disabilities. All standards are compulsory as preliminary coaching contains a set of well defined skills that are applicable across all coaching disciplines. This qualification leads to the National Certificate in Equine (Coaching) with strands in Dressage, Showjumping, and Eventing [Ref: 1604]. |
