Strategic Purpose Statement |
The National Diploma in Hauora (Maori Health) (Level 6) [Ref: 1657] builds on the skills and knowledge recognised by the National Certificate in Hauora (Maori Health) (Level 4) [Ref: 0710].
This national diploma is intended for candidates who choose to further enhance their knowledge and skills in Hauora. It recognises advanced knowledge and skills related to Maori health initiatives such as auahi kore, tamariki ora, counselling, youth work, whanau ora, and drug and alcohol work. Candidates will be able to maintain professional working relationship with turoro and their whanau, and work within a framework for professional practice informed by knowledge and skills in the application and implementation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi within a hauora context. The compulsory section is designed to assess a broad range of skills including: research to determine a health priority for Maori; the impact of current government policies on hauora Maori employees; an analysis of the effectiveness of primary health care providers' services in meeting hauora needs of Maori; intervention strategies to reduce the risk of Maori placing themselves in at-risk situations; and research into traditional and contemporary hauora practices. The elective section allows candidates to further specialise in different aspects of Hauora within Community and Social Services, Health, Humanities and Field Maori. Tikanga pertinent to local rohe is interwoven through all practices of Hauora, including any interaction with whanau, hapu, iwi within a Hauora context. It also permeates any study of Maori models of health, or Maori history and best practice models within a Hauora context. Candidates will have the advanced skills and knowledge required to provide Hauora services delivered by primary and secondary health services, social services, community support services, health providers, Maori health providers, mainstream health services, institutions, marae, community centres and local clinics. The National Certificate in Hauora (Maori Health) (Level 4) [Ref: 0710] leads to this qualification. Whilst this qualification does not lead on to any other New Zealand qualifications, it may pathway to other Hauora qualifications, such as Poutuarongo Oranga Hinengaro (Level 7) [Ref: RK0054]; Poutuarongo Oranga Hinengaro (Level 7) [Ref: RK0054]; or Te Ohanga Mataora Paetahi: Bachelor of Health Sciences Maori (Nursing) [Ref: AW1317]. |
