Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of this course is:
To provide a supportive learning environment in which international students, who have an interest in a career in digital design, can gain proficiency in English language and develop their digital design skills and knowledge to levels which enable them to meet entry requirements for Natcoll's range of creative digital design Certificate and Diploma level courses.
Graduate profile
Learners gaining this qualification will be able to:
a) Demonstrate the following English language skills at an IELTS (General Training) level of 5.0 or better:
- Present information orally
- Interact in discussion with other English speakers
- Locate and retrieve information from a variety of oral texts
- Locate and retrieve information from a variety of written texts
- Write a variety of texts which demonstrate more formal English usage b) Apply a creative design process at an introductory level
c) Use a range of creative digital software at an introductory level
d) Plan, design and digitally produce creative work in response to a design brief e) Understand common terminology used in digital design

Education pathways
Learners who graduate with the Certificate in English and Digital Design (with Merit) can pathway into any of the following Natcoll diplomas depending on their specific area of interest:
- Level 5 Diploma of Animation and Digital Video
- Level 6 Diploma of Computer Graphic Design
- Level 6 Diploma of Interactive Design
- Level 6 Diploma of Web Development

Learners who graduate with the basic Certificate in English for Digital Design can pathway into Natcoll's Level 3 Certificate in Digital Media (iCreate). On successful completion of that qualification they would then be eligible to pathway into any of the diplomas listed above depending on their specific area of interest.

Learners who graduate can also explore alternative study options at other tertiary institutions for which their IELTS level is appropriate.

Employment pathways

Entry Requirements
Applicants will be required to provide evidence of a formal IELTS level of at least 4.5 (General Training), or equivalent TOEFL or Cambridge scores, and that they have an expressed interest in a career in digital design. Applications will only be considered from students who will be at least 18 years of age.

Qualification Type

Level

The NZQF has ten levels. Level one is least complex and is often entry-level, for example foundation certificates. Levels eight to ten are the most complex, and include post-graduate study.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
