Strategic Purpose Statement |
The aim of the Bachelor of Māori Advancement is to advance global well-being through self-determination, intellectual sovereignty and contributions of consequence to iwi, hapū, whānau and self. The qualification equips tauira with culturally relevant practices that advance mātauranga Māori. In doing so, it provides a framework for engaging with the bodies of knowledge and theories that are critical to the understanding of the fields covered in this degree. In addition, this same framework can be reapplied over and over again through life as new bodies of knowledge are encountered and engaged with.

Entry Requirements |
As an alternative to the entry requirements for Bachelor of Māori Advancement, tauira for the degree with a strand in Te Paritūtanga o Te Reo may be granted entry if they have gained one of the following qualifications:-
* a National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA) Te Reo Rangatira Level 2; or * a National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA) Te Reo Māori (Level 3); or * a Certificate in Te Pūtaketanga o te reo (Level 4); or * an equivalent te reo Māori qualification of 120 credits at Level 4; or * a Diploma in Te Ara Reo Māori (Level 5); or * Te Aupikitanga ki te reo Kairangi (Level 6) In addition, tauira are required to:- * attend an interview and * successfully complete the pre-entry competency assessment The purpose of the pre-entry competency assessment at Year one is to assess the linguistic competence and Māori language comprehension ability of tauira and to ensure tauira have the potential to thrive in an immersion environment. Tauira enrolling directly into Year two of the programme are required to:- * attend an interview. The purpose of the interview for Year two is to gauge the Māori language learning previously gained by tauira and to determine whether tauira have the potential to thrive in an immersion environment and * successfully complete the pre-entry competency assessment |

The imperative in this degree is the coalescence of knowledge to understand the past, engage in the present, and design the future. The programme is underpinned by takepū - principled approaches to practice based on te ao Māori thinking, and knowledge and wisdoms that are applicable and adaptable to all bodies of knowledge.
