Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of the Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Theology is to create thinking practitioners, scholars and leaders who will stimulate and resource new knowledge, fresh and critical thinking, and the development of effective praxis in Christian mission and leadership in New Zealand and beyond through:
* providing rigorous and critical engagement with both contemporary theological scholarship and its application within leadership practice
* developing critical and evaluative skills particularly suited to the needs of thinking practitioners and leaders
* providing ongoing leadership development for pastors and other Christian ministry practitioners who have high levels of curriculum knowledge, research skills, and leadership capacity
* contributing to the ongoing wider body of research within both the discipline of applied theology and its associated disciplines
Graduate profile
On successful completion of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Applied Theology, Graduates will demonstrate the following attributes:
* Assess critically the most recent published research in applied theology
* Reflect critically on issues of society and contemporary life from advanced, appropriate, and soundly-based biblical and theological perspectives.
* Develop critical skills in the interpretation of biblical texts and theological evaluation.
* Analyse life contexts for contemporary ecclesial and missional practice in Aotearoa New Zealand and related contexts.
* Implement assessment skills - finding strengths, weaknesses, multiple options, as well as identifying obstacles.
* Evidence planning skills - the collaborative construction of preferred outcomes, finding ways around obstacles, ways to mobilize strengths and resources to achieve preferred outcomes with individuals, families, groups and organizations.

Critical assessment of recent published research in applied theology

Reflect critically on issuesof society and contemporary life from advanced, appropriate, and soundly-based biblical and theological perspectives

Develop critical skills in the interpretation of biblical texts and theological evaluation

Analyse life contexts for contemporary ecclesial and missional practice in Aotearoa New Zealand and related contexts Implement assessment skills - finding strengths, weaknesses, multiple options, as well as identifying obstacles

Evidence planning skills - the collaborative construction of preferred outcomes
Education pathways
Graduates will be awarded the Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Theology (Level 8 Ref:1774 ). They may progress to the Master of Applied Theology (Level 9) and/or credits towards postgraduate Master of Theology qualification.
Employment pathways
Graduates will have the knowledge and skills to work in senior leadership positions in a variety of Christian ministry roles and occupations, in Christian Churches, wider church, community contexts and missions. Entry Requirements
In order to gain admission all applicants must have completed one of the following:
* A recognised Undergraduate degree in Theology or Christian Ministry with a grade point average of B in courses at Level 6 and 7, or equivalent.
* A professional or other qualification which, in the judgement of the Academic Director, can be recognised as equivalent to an Undergraduate degree in Theology or Christian Ministry.
Applicants who do not meet the normal admission requirements but who have completed a recognised Undergraduate degree in a discipline other than Theology of Christian Ministry may be granted admission following the successful completion of a bridging programme of study as determined by the Academic Director

Degree in theology or Christian ministry

Bachelors degree in a discipline other than theology but may be required to undertake a bridging programme

In exceptional circumstance it may be at the discretion of the Dean

Credits
