Strategic Purpose Statement |
The GDipProfAcc allows degree graduates to pursue a significant body of study at an advanced undergraduate level. It aims to prepare graduates who can:
use significant accounting knowledge at an advanced level with an appreciation of current issues and debates in the field of accounting meet the academic requirements for admission to a professional accounting body carry out accounting work in accordance with relevant technical and professional standards critically analyse and solve financial problems with view to the wider implications for business enhance their professional development through self directed learning and study, gaining additional skills and practical experience to enhance their accounting qualifications be able to utilise technology effectively to manage business information. be confident learners able to engage in self directed learning and advanced study and demonstrate the capacity for life-long learning. be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively. Graduate profile |
The Department of Accounting and Finance staff recognise the importance of ready access to current accounting and finance related knowledge, data, tools and best practice examples utilising the following resources:
Guest lecturers and industry speakers. Practitioners from accounting and finance related professions, industry bodies and business organisations with expert knowledge will contribute to the content and delivery of the programme. Publicly available information. Students will access and search corporate websites and online databases in order to analyse accounting and finance issues. Applied technical knowledge and e-learning. Technical knowledge and skills will be developed and applied using practical situations providing insight into the real world of the profession. Industry practice. The level 7 Industry Based Learning course will expose students to current best practice. The programmes aim to deliver outcomes in an environment conducive to personal growth and development. Communication, collaboration and teamwork skills are developed through independent and group learning activities and assessments. The learning environment, the teaching and learning strategies and the progressive development of students' independence throughout the programme aligns well with promoting life-long learning. Real world application of accounting in teaching is enhanced amongst teaching staff through high level research outputs, conference attendance and regular conversation with industry and business. Self-reflection is encouraged through staff participation in staff development activities and communities of practice such as elearning, programme reviews and feedback from student course evaluations. Teaching techniques are constantly refined and adapted to meet the needs of the current student cohort, for example additional resourcing within the classroom to meet literacy and numeracy needs of students, and using business examples that reflect the cultures of the student cohort. |

General Admission: Applicants must have: 1. a recognised degree, 2. a professional qualification in a relevant discipline, OR 3. the ability to demonstrate competencies equivalent to a graduate from qualifications 1 or 2.
