Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the Diploma in Purchasing and Supply (Level 7) is to expand practical and and applied techincal knowledge in purchasing and supply management and to develop specialist skills in the field.
Graduate profile
This qualification is designed for those people currently employed in the purchasing and supply chain sector wishing to develop management and leadership skills as well as for those who wish to enter the purchasing and supply chain sector. The Diploma in Purchasing and Supply (Level 7) is intended as a specialist qualification for those seeking to enter the industry or seeking a career in management in purchasing and supply chain management. Qualification leads to professional registration with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply. On successful completion of this qualification, graduates will be able to: * Apply their specialist knowledge of materials management concepts, supply management, organisation and logistics of supply chain management in a complex, variable and specialised contexts; * Carry out processes that require a command in-depth knowledge and application of the business purpose, the competitive environment and broader business and corporate responsibility * Perform management functions that involve the full range of procedures of the discipline of purchasing and supply management; within human resource management, financial analysis and costing systems and techniques; * Determine legal aspects of procurement; both purchasing and supply that require the creation of appropriate responses to contextual abstract legal problems; * Determine the nature of strategy within business contexts, implement strategic management of the supply chain, influence factors that affect planning, formulation and implementation of strategies that require the analysis and evaluation of abstract data and concepts; * Determine tactics and techniques for the control of supply chain operations that requires command of highly specialised technical skills; * Apply knowledge of stores and inventory management in planning, resourcing and managing processes; * Apply knowledge of operational processes and planning control systems within broad parameters and functions; * Demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking and management methodologies to a wide range of specialised Purchasing and Supply contexts with complete accountability for determining, achieving and evaluating personal and/or group outcomes; * Demonstrate basic research skills and apply these to complex specialised contexts within the Purchasing and Supply context.

Entry Requirements
At least 50 credits at NCEA Level 3; or National Certificate Level 3 with 40 credits from the field of Business; or CIPS Certificate in Purchasing and Supply (Level 3); or An overseas qualification assessed to be the equivalent to or higher than the above; or Passes in other certificate or Diploma courses considered appropriate by the programme leader; International students must have an IELTS or equivalent general score of 6, or a minimum of 550 TOEFL It is highly recommended that students have relevant work experience.
