Strategic Purpose Statement |
The Certificate in Trades and Primary Industries is a level two programme which aims to bridge the gap after students have left secondary school, providing students with fundamental and specific vocational skills and pastoral support to prepare them for entry-level work or further study. Graduates will have a better understanding of their career path options and will have the skills, experience and confidence to set and manage career goals which pathway into further choices.

Graduate profile |
A graduate from the Certificate in Trades and Primary Industries programme will have gained necessary life skills and behaviours which will enhance their self management abilities.
These include; Developing, maintaining and managing a personal budget Being an effective team member Personal and peer leadership Critical thinking and problem solving Priority setting for effective time management Developing positive communication skills involving assertive language and listening techniques Self awareness contributing to wellbeing and achieving goals Improved numeracy and literacy skills Graduates will also be able to demonstrate a range of core skills specific to the Technology and Primary Industries sector. These skills are essential, common to, and required of, people seeking to become qualified in either the engineering, automotive, horticulture, maritime or carpentry trades, and include: Practical skills required to operate and service a range of industry equipment, basic automotive, carpentry and welding skills, sea survival skills. The Certificate in Trades and Primary Industries programme provides pathways to various pre-trade, Certificate and Diploma programmes within the Technology, Primary Industries and Maritime area. Holders of the Certificate in Trades and Primary Industries would also be well placed to pathway into entry level employment in Aquaculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Viticulture, Building Construction. |

Entry Requirements |
There are no minimum academic requirements for this programme.
All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those students, whose first language is not English, are required to demonstrate: An IELTS academic band score of 5.0 issued within the past 2 years, OR Equivalent. |
